Bespoke software & automation
Custom tools for how your business actually works.
Sometimes off-the-shelf software almost fits — and the gap is exactly the bit that matters. When that happens, I build the missing piece: internal tools, dashboards, integrations that make your systems talk to each other, and automations that delete manual admin. This is where 11 years of serious engineering — cloud, AI, and secure systems — actually pays off for a small business.
When this service makes sense
You probably need this if…
You're holding the business together with spreadsheets and copy-paste.
Two systems you rely on don't talk to each other, so you're the integration.
You pay monthly for software that does most — but not all — of what you need.
You've got a genuinely custom idea and have been told it's 'too small' for agencies to bother with.
How I approach it
My approach, step by step.
- 01
Understand the real problem first
I start by understanding how your business actually works and where the time and mistakes go — not by jumping to a tool. Often the fix is simpler than expected.
- 02
Build the smallest thing that helps
I ship the most valuable piece first, get it into your hands, and improve from there — so you're getting value in weeks, not waiting months for a big launch that might miss.
- 03
Connect what you already use
Your diary, spreadsheets, inbox, payment system, accounting tool — I wire them together so data flows automatically instead of being re-typed by you.
- 04
Built properly, and yours to keep
Reliable, secure, and documented — built to the same standard I'd use for a big company, then handed over so you understand and own it. No black boxes, no lock-in.
What you get
Concrete deliverables.
- A custom tool, integration, or automation built around your process
- Your existing systems connected so data flows automatically
- Reliable, secure foundations and plain-English documentation
- A handover so you understand and control what you've got
Typical timeline
Bespoke work is charged at a day rate with a two-week minimum engagement. Every project is different, so I scope it properly in a free first call and give you a clear plan and estimate before any work starts.
Common questions
What clients usually ask.
Isn't custom software expensive and risky for a small business?
It can be when it's over-engineered or badly scoped — which is exactly what I avoid. I build the smallest useful thing first, ship it early, and grow it only where it pays off. You see working software and value quickly, not a big bill for a big unknown.
What kind of tech do you actually use?
Modern, well-supported tools chosen for reliability — usually .NET/C#, React and Node.js, running on Azure or AWS. I've used these to build insurance, eCommerce and banking systems for large organisations, so your small build rests on genuinely solid foundations. Happy to go deeper if you're technical — but you don't need to be.
What happens if I want changes later, or we stop working together?
You're not stranded. I document what I build and hand it over so it's genuinely yours. I'm happy to keep supporting it, but you're never locked in to me.
How do you price bespoke work?
At a day rate, with a two-week minimum engagement. I scope the work in a free first call and give you a clear plan and estimate before anything starts — and I build the smallest useful thing first, so you see value early rather than a big bill for a big unknown.
